Chiropractic care for new parents
Lifting, carrying, feeding and broken sleep put a load on the back and neck that nothing quite prepares you for. If pain is making you dread picking your baby up, that is exactly the problem we are here to help with.
Sound familiar?
New parents tend to arrive with lower back pain from constant lifting and bending, neck and shoulder pain from feeding positions and carrying, and the exhaustion that comes from doing all of it on little sleep. One patient described being afraid to pick her baby up for fear of her back giving out; a few weeks later she was carrying her without a second thought.
Care is gentle and specific, and the plan takes account of the reality that you cannot stop lifting a baby while you recover. Babies and children are welcome in the clinic, there is free parking right outside the door, and the courtyard has room for a pram.
How the New Patient Consultation works for new parents
Two visits: a thorough first-visit examination, then a report of findings with your care plan and, if you are happy to proceed, your first adjustment.
Visit one: finding what is driving the pain
The first visit reviews your health history, including the birth and anything that has changed since, then works through a neurological and orthopaedic examination, posture and gait analysis. The aim is the root cause rather than the sore spot, so that the plan deals with why your back keeps flaring rather than just today's ache.
Visit two: a plan that fits family life
The report of findings goes through what the tests showed and sets out your care plan, including what you can do between visits: how to lift and carry with less strain, and positions that take the pressure off when you are feeding. If you are happy to go ahead, your first adjustment follows in the same visit.

I’ve been going to Elliot for a few weeks now, and the improvement has been incredible. As a new mum, I was struggling with severe back pain that left me exhausted, miserable, and even afraid to pick up my baby for fear of my back giving out.
