Chiropractic care for older adults
Arthritic hips and knees, a stiff back in the mornings and the slow narrowing of what you feel able to do: our older patients come to us to keep walking, gardening, playing golf and looking after grandchildren.
Sound familiar?
Life with arthritis can be difficult, but by making a few simple adjustments it is possible to take control and lead a full and active life. One of our patients had avoided stairs and walking uphill for ten years because of hip and knee arthritis; after a couple of months of care she was doing all of it again with ease and had taken on a dog to keep her walking.
Care is gentle, paced to you, and aimed at keeping joints moving and daily pain manageable rather than at any heroics. Parking is free right outside the clinic, the treatment room is on one level, and we are happy to book a regular slot so the trip becomes routine.
How the New Patient Consultation works for older adults
Two visits: a thorough first-visit examination, then a report of findings with your care plan and, if you are happy to proceed, your first adjustment.
Visit one: a careful, thorough examination
The first visit takes a full health history, including medication and any previous diagnoses, then a neurological and orthopaedic examination, posture and gait analysis, balance and weight-distribution testing and vitality tests including heart rate variability. Nothing is rushed, and anything that needs a different kind of care is said plainly.
Visit two: what we found and a gentle plan
The report of findings explains the results in plain language and sets out a care plan with what we can do and what you can do yourself to keep moving. These tests are repeated as you go through care so that progress is measured rather than guessed. If you are happy, your first adjustment follows.

What older adults usually come in with
In their words
One of the older adults who came to the clinic, as reviewed on Google. Read more reviews.
I have been struggling for the last 10 years with hip and knee arthritis. It got so debilitating that I would avoid taking stairs, walking uphill and really struggled with simple tasks like putting shoes on.
